Thumper Pond means Family Fun at this Year’s Shepherd’s Holiday – Nov. 15-16

12 Jul
July 12, 2013

Bring the family for a weekend of fun, education, lamb & wool promotion and socializing with fellow sheep enthusiasts. The Shepherd’s Holiday annual conference and trade show will be held at the Thumper Pond resort in Otter Tail, MN this November.

Join us for the “Celebrate Lamb” social on Friday night, including lamb cooking demonstrations and sampling with Chef Ben McCallum, sheep cheese sampling, wine sampling from Carlos Creek winery, and a Make It With Wool display. The social is sponsored by Minnesota Grown, the Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council, the Minnesota Corn Growers Association and the Minnesota Lamb & Wool Producers Association.

Saturday’s activities include an array of educational seminars featuring NDSU Sheep Specialist Reid Redden, youth programs, fiber seminars and a beginning shepherd’s panel. The Make It With Wool contest will conclude with a fashion show during the Silver Bell Awards luncheon. The annual fundraiser auction will follow the business meeting and election of officers.

Sunday morning is free time to spend in the water park. Your hotel room fee includes 4 passes to the water park. Your conference registration fee includes tickets to Friday’s “Celebrate Lamb” social, a continental breakfast on Saturday, Saturday’s luncheon and banquet, coffee breaks, access to all educational seminars and the trade show. Note the reduced registration rate for children.

A draft agenda, and registration information will be available soon. Reserve your room by Nov. 1 and ask for the MN Lamb & Wool rate. Learn more about Thumper Pond at

logoOne of the big supporters of MLWPA is Sydell. As an MLWPA member, you are entitled to a discount on Sydell equipment, and Sydell gives back 3% in contributions to MLWPA. Sydell will be at the MN State Fair for a Goat show from July 6 – 11, so if you need some good blue equipment, place your order and plan to pick it up at the state fairgrounds so you can save shipping costs. Thanks to George Warrant for hosting the Spring workshop. It was a great learning opportunity for all who attended.
