MLWPA members Kelly and John spoke to 250 3rd grade students as they were ushered around the Coliseum at the Minnesota State Fair Grounds. They spoke with them to explain what all went into raising sheep and what the many products were that we receive from sheep.

The Minnesota Lamb and Wool Producers Association were in Washington on Wednesday for their annual D.C. fly in. They thanked me for my opposition to the WOTUS rule and my support for federal funds to control problem wolves. They also discussed additional appropriations requests for the Scrapie eradication program, wolf management funding, and USDA’s Agriculture Research Services. – via Collin Peterson’s Newsletter

Shearing is happening on many sheep farms around the country. Shearing is one of the first steps in getting ready for the lambing season to come. There are many health and stress reasons to have the ewes sheared 2 – 4 weeks prior to lambing. In the picture: the “Shearer” is almost finished with this ewe, and the “Tipper” has the next ewe rumped and waiting. He will then bag the wool fleece.
